46 to 6.
What do those numbers mean. Simple: there are 46 registered Youth Liblogs members compared to 6 registered NDP Youth Blogs members.
Come on, we have to do better than that. And I think we can.
First of all, I know for a fact that there are more Blogging Dipper blogs written by youth out there, so for those people, follow the simple process to get on. It will look better if we have some company here.
But second of all, I have talked to youth at conventions that read the blogs, but don't write blogs themselves. Well, I'd say that the time to create a blog is now. There is lots of room on the Blogging Dippers right now and it would probably be relatively easier to find your niche.
Yes, I'm talking to you, Name-Censored-Because-Of-Nature-Of-Internet.
As for the development of the NDP Youth Blogs, Robert has asked us if we could submit a logo and possibly a name change.
So I'm going to bounce of a few ideas. Why don't we call ourselves the NDY (New Democratic Youth) Blogs, and use the following as a logo?
Since there seems to be no universal NDY logo, I choose to add the often used stand-by: the social democratic rose. You can accuse me of being BC-Centric, as that happens to be the BC YND's logo (note to self: try to convince others to get new, less common logo), but I think that it will do for now.
Anyways, I'll wait for opinions before I'll do anything definitive.

The logo is okay. But I think it uses too many colours, and is a bit too cluttered. Maybe, it shouldn't use 'official' Green/Orange NDP colouring for the Maple Leaf and the 'NDY Blogs' words. Maybe it should use the Red and possibly Green, because both colours are used in the rose from the Rose. Or maybe it could use the Green/Orange colouring, but it shouldn't use the Red. Either way, all those colours shouldn't be together.
Hell, maybe it should have a more of a streamlined logo without the Rose. I know, I know the political ramifications of that are borderline blasphemy! Or maybe remove the hand from the Rose, and just go with the Rose. I know that's 'New Labour'-ish...but it's more aesthetically pleasing. IMO, at least.
Well, the thing is, I'm not too great of a graphics artist, so the logo really was literally copying and pasting the leaf and the rose, and then putting in the text with shadow effect.
To be honest, I'm not really crazy sbout the rose, as I see the darn thing way too often, but I need to have something that most youth in the party would know about.
But yeah, I'd like to see alternatives, I'll see what I can do. The current logo can be used until something better comes along.
Oh, I don't hate it, it's just that I don't love it. But I tend to do random sketches all over my notes, so maybe I could do something like that, then scan and upload it...because my photoshop knowledge is, well, non existent.
As for symbols, maybe I'm thinking of this in too much of an stylistic marketing sort of way.
Logo: I'll never understand how a social democratic party consistently seems to lack artists... Aren't artists social democrats most of the time?! So non-artists are always stuck trying to come up with stuff ourselves.
It says you need to be part of the NDP Youth to join. There's a way to join the NDP Youth? Or do I just need to be a youth and in the NDP for that?
JF,
If you are under 26 years of age, you are automatically a member of the New Democratic Youth of Canada.
Oh, and part of the NDP too. Forgot that important detail.
But what qualifies as youth in the provincial parties varies between each provincial party.
So I think that the federal rules will work fine for our purposes.
Honestly, I'm a bit flaky right now. So I'll try to actually do something about actually doing something with regards to the Logo...let alone joining the blogroll and umm...making sure my party membership is up to date ;).
