Wind Energy Institute of Canada Opens In PEI

Today, the Wind Energy Institute of Canada, or WEICan, officially opened in North Cape, PEI. Apparently the purpose of WEICan is to test, educate, and research about wind power as a source of electricity.

WEICan is being funded by the Government of Canada, Government of PEI, various universities, and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.

I think that the establishment of WEICan is positive news on the sustainable energy front. The fact is, there are various European countries that have been developing the technology and skills necessary to deploy electrical wind plants. While the European countries have been doing this, Canada has been falling behind, risking both our environment and our future competitiveness in energy sources. Hopefully, WEICan will be the start of an effort to catch up.
