My Favourite Political Bloggers and Why

I should be going to bed right now, but I'm excited about this blog and want to expand it. So before I get into some more "heavy" political stuff, I'm going to discuss my favourite political bloggers and why.

The Big Mac Political Hack Attack: Chaos in Canada
Blogger: Shawn Rennebohm

This is a relatively new blog, but I find it rather interesting. Well, I actually know the blogger from somewhere and find his political views interesting. This blog espouses political views from the "Red Tory" perspective, so it's not exactly a Dipper blog, but I find that the blogger is willing to criticize all political parties, which is refreshing (though he give the Conservatives a little too much wiggle room sometimes). I personally can't wait until the next post.

Calgary Grit
Blogger: Calgary Grit

One of the most popular blogs on the Canadian Political Blogosphere, I check Calgary Grit every day. There are too many people praising this blogger, so I won't repeat what has been said; however, his site provides great insights into the Liberals - and the country.

From the Mind of a Netjin
Blogger: "The JF" Jean-Francois

I like this blog as it gives me access to a worldview that I would not otherwise see. This Blogger is a proud Acadian, which are the French-speaking people living in the Maritimes. Acadian issues are not something one really hears about here in Northern BC. I think this is the true power of blogs: giving people an opportunity to see the world though other people's eyes. As well, I believe the JF controls the server that hosts the left-wing EnMasse discussion forum, which can be an interesting place to go to.

Inkless Wells

Blogger: Paul Wells

Most political hacks know of Paul Wells, a writer for Macleans magazine that used to be on the back page. Well, he also writes a blog. I find that he seems to be right a lot of the time: he disliked Paul Martin before it became popular.

My Blahg
Blogger: Robert McClelland

Quite a prolific blogger, I find that Robert McClelland is willing to discuss issues that don't seem to get covered by other Blogging Dippers, such as debt reduction which is something every New Democrat should be thinking about, in my opinion. He also hosts the Blogging Dippers blogroll.

Paying Attention
Blogger: Paul Willcocks

If you don't live in BC, then you probably won't care about this blogger. If you do live in BC, then you may know Willcocks as an opinion piece writer. Well, his blog tends to have his opinion pieces before they reach the papers, and sometimes has ones that don't reach the papers at all. I find that Willcocks provides insights about the BC Government that otherwise would not reach the light of day. I think he leans towards the BC Liberals, but I find he is fast to point out their mistakes, and hear he does the same thing with BC NDP Governments.

The Tyee

The Tyee is an left-leaning online newspaper in the blog system pertaining to BC events and issues. Rafe Mair who writes an article every Monday is an interesting read (but not always correct, in my view).

I'm sorry to say that I can't put Warren Kinsella onto my list of favourite blogs. It was his site that introduced me to the Canadian Political Blogosphere. But I find that since the 2006 election is over, he increasingly has nothing to say. I mean, I'm not afraid of terrorists and I support our troops (supporting the reason the Canadian Government deploys them is a different story). As well, he seems to think that the NDP is being represented solely by Robert McClelland, which is not true. He also seems to think that the NDP is full of anti-semites (or anti-Jewish), which is not true. Taking a critical stance on the actions of the Israeli state is not anti-semitism, just as taking a critical stance on the actions of the Chinese state is not anti-Asian. There are many positions of the actions of the Israeli state in Lebanon, but it does a disservice to the debate by calling people who have concerns about Isreal's actions anti-semites. Look at your own party, Mr. Kinsella: I see that there are many Liberal Bloggers that have the same concerns about the actions of the Israeli state. Are they anti-semites, too? Or is that title reserved for political enemies of the Liberals?

Edit: Typos corrected and link for "Red Tory".

Thanks for the post, and the link Northern BC Dipper. Interesting links you have, and yes, I agree with you on the assessment that not everyone in the NDP is an anti-semite or pro-Robert McClelland. I look forward to your posts in the future.

I noticed, however, you made no mention about the Liberal leadership or youth wings. Another post, perhaps?

Cool! Comments from two of my favourite bloggers. I really can't say anything right now except thanks for stopping by my blog.

Thanks for the link!

I should try to post more stuff on Acadian life and politics and such, but I'm a bit of a hermit and NB politics aren't really covered in the news, so I'm a bit short on material, but now that I know that at least one person is interested in what I write, I'll try to add to my blog.

I think I'll add you to my short list of blogs, since the situation is the same for me too, I don't hear a lot about northern BC!

From coast to coast, eh?
